Prep Shapes

First, we read a cute little story about penguins going on a shape hunt at the beach. We then brainstormed different types of shapes (one child even came up with a semi-cicle). We used black texta to draw our shapes on an A4 piece of paper. Preps focused on drawing "neat" shapes and discovered interesting ways to place their shapes on to their paper (i.e shapes in shapes and shapes on top of shapes). Some Preps even created some lovely shape patterns.

Preps used watercolour paints to fill their shapes in. We focused on making sure their were no paint puddles.

Just lovely!

Prep S plus left over bunting flags that I cut out for last years art show!

Prep Watercolour Lines

This year I teach PL, PH and PS and they are pretty amazing!

This week preps learned to clean their paint brushes, move their paint puddles around and brush paint carefully. I was pleasantly surprised at some of them who sat painting until the end of the class (40 minutes sitting).

These are so special!

Rules and Consequences!

Here it is folks! - it is posted up in the art room beside the smart board

I have carefully chosen these rules and consequences to create a safe engaging learning environment. Classes are to work as a "community of learners" where students' choices have an impact on one another. These rules and consequences are to help students understand that if they make poor choices then they not only impact their own art learning but the learning of their peers and my teaching. If the art room is full of smart choices it is happy and productive as students can develop their passion for art in a positive environment!

ART ROOM RULES
BE READY TO LEARN
RESPECT YOUR TEACHER
LISTEN CAREFULLY
USE YOUR MANNERS
FOLLOW DIRECTIONS
USE MATERIALS APPROPRIATELY
KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF
BE HELPFUL DURING CLEANUP
BE  KIND TO  EVERYONE
MAKE SMART CHOICES
TRY YOUR BEST

Consequences
1.   First Warning- “Stop and make a better choice”
2.   Second Warning- move to another part of the room
3.   Third warning- apology note at play/removal from the room

Everyone has the right to learn and create in the art room
Students who continue to make poor choices will be sent to Rob or Cate’s office

The First 7 Days in the Art Room

1 week down!!! I had a great week in the art room. I am sooo excited to get students started on their projects. Students have been wonderful and are very enthusiastic about their first art project for this year. Keep up the enthusiasm!
Something I saw on a blog and thought it needed be on my wall!
YES!
Year 5s and 6s are getting ready to dive into their own art pieces, but not before we sort out a few goals!

Year 4s spent 1 class designing their piece of art and copying their design to a piece of calico. 4N was the first class to start sewing as their art class is on Friday and we started school on last Thursday. Needless to say I was impressed with them.

Year 3s have finished creating their stories and some classes have started weaving. Judging by what I have seen so far I think we can fit another project in!
