Textiles- Year 3 Weaving

This term, the Year 3s have been learning about the artistic process- planning, creating and reflecting!

Year 3s communicated a story through creating a weave using a cardboard loom and colourful wool. Some students challenged themselves to create stripes and blocks of colour. Beautiful results.

Year 4 Felties

A big congratulations to the Year 4s for creating such wonderful little felties.  Students have been working on their marvellous creations for the last 8 weeks or so. So much care went into creating these felties and words cannot even describe how proud I am of the Year 4s. Just look at the stitching and all the little details!

Year 4 Felty Update

Just a little update!

Year 4s have been doing some pretty fantastic sewing in the art room. Year 4s have finished sewing on the details for the front of their felty and are currently in the middle of sewing their felty pieces together using the overstitch. Year 4s are trying their very best to keep their stitches small and tidy. Can you believe these were done by 9 year olds?

Textiles with the Year 3s and 4s

Year 3s are weaving their very own story using a cardboard loom and wool! This is one that I have been doing with the Year 3s for the last 3 years. I just think it is such a lovely processes and the kids feel really going about what they are creating.

Year 4s are creating FELTIES! This year I gave classes a choice between pillows and felties and they all chose felties (I should have seen this coming). On the bright side, I don't have to cut out 100s of 30cm by 30cm calico pieces. This week we are learning to stitch our felt pieces together.

Before we voted, I warned the Year 4s that this was a challenging project and that I was a bit nervous about it, but they really have proven me wrong. Fingers crossed, sewing goes well! More pictures soon!

Unique felties for everyone!

Year 4 Embroidery - The Backstitch

No sewing machine used here folks!

Year 4s have spent the first term embroidering a beautiful pillow or tapestry. Students concentrated on creating beautiful little stitches and we ended up with heaps of fantastic and unique designs.

I am even loving the fact that there is a handful of year 6s who were inspired by the Year 4s work and are now doing embroidery for their art pieces.

***Not all students completed a pillow and opted for the hanging tapestry (the actually stitching of the pillow takes roughly 2 classes). Two classes lost two hours of art due to the public holiday and planning week so there are some who are still finishing off their pillows. Other students who took longer with their embroidering are coming in at lunch to finish stitching their pillows.

Cross your fingers that next year I might be brave enough to do felties/softies with the new Year 4s!
