Year 3 Silhouette Landscapes

In our landscape unit, Year 3s have been learning that colours are lighter/pale towards the horizon line and that images closer to the horizon line are smaller than images that are closer to us. Of course, students chose their own colours and images ;)

Year 3s used soft pastel and ink to create these stunning images.

Year 3 Silhouettes

 This term Year 3s are learning about perspective and how to create depth and distance in art work.  

We learned that colours are lighter and objects are smaller towards the horizon line. Students also learned that a silhouette is an image that is filled in with black. 

We first used soft pastels to create the background and than used black ink to create the images. Tres Belle!

Lost Post- Silhouette and Soft Pastel

Somehow, I missed posting this earlier this year.

When learning about created depth and distance in artwork, students learned that colours are darker away from the horizon line. Students also learned that objects that are far away are smaller than images that are close.

Students used soft pastels and picked and blended colours that they thought went together. Next, students used ink and a wooden stick to create silhouetted images.

Printing

The magic word in the Art Room was printing.

This was Preps first time printing and they did extremely well.

Day 1: Students used leaves, acrylic paint and rollers to create their prints (Oh sooo messy).

Day 2: Students chose either warm or cool coloured soft pastels to fill in their negative space/background (3 pieces each). Students learned to blend their soft pastels together using their index and middle fingers.

I can see why this lesson has been done many times, it is a real gem that produces very effective art pieces. 

During this term, year 3s have been learning about creating depth and distance in landscape style arts works. This lesson, we learned that images that are closer have more detail/colour then images that are further away. We used glue and soft pastel. Students chose an image that were found in nature. Students experimented with colour combinations on a scrap paper. A tip was to blend 3 or more colours together. Students also chose background colours that would compliment their close up image.
