Preps were inspired by nature and animals that weave.
I was lucky that preps have had experiences in weaving during investigations in their classrooms so there were little to no breakdowns in each class. We weaved the first day and decorated using texts the next class. Some preps really blew me away with their colouring skills.
Lovely
This is the place for students, parents, and teachers to find out what we have been creating in art class. I hope that these experiences will help students discover their personal artistic interests and become confident, capable learners. I have included pictures of student's artwork and basic explanations of the projects.

This Little Gem
I had some of my kids sharpen pencils for me... and one girl said that she wanted to take a picture of her pencil shavings because it was arty. Magic.
I take 4 (year 3 and 4) classes to the college campus (which is a 5 minute walk from our school) and I was asked to put up some of their art exhibition. Since the art show is on week 4, students only managed to do the metal embossing and printing. Thankfully I had some prints left from last term.

Foam Prints with Year 4
I love love love printing. I love the quality of prints- contrast, abstract, bold, clean, colourful etc. Printing might be my favourite skill to teach but it is also the hardest... 1 SINK... enough said.
Students planned out their prints before pressing into a pre cut piece of foam. If students made a mistake I told them to work it into their original design. Foam is tres expensive.
Students used coloured pens to draw their design on to the foam which I think seem to work better than pencil. Students had two classes to print on various coloured paper with various colours of ink.

Metal Embossing or Repousse
Tremendous effort made by my Year 3s on this project. I was nervous about children cutting themselves on the edges of the metal and thankfully only 1 out of 110 did (and that was because he was being silly). My instructions were for students to fill their whole piece of metal with a design. The background is black construction paper and metallic pencils.
This project really interested the Year 6s and I got a lot of "What?? These were done by Year 3s?"
Impressive!

Prep Spring Trees
I thought we would start this term off with something simple and fun. I love any artwork that has to do with trees and spring is here in Melbourne as it was 24 degrees today!
Our magic word was spring trees.
Day 1: Preps used oil pastels for their tree trunk and branches. They used crayons to give their background some texture (they practiced fast colouring). Preps used watercolour paints to fill in their background. I kind of let them go nuts with colours.
Day 2: Preps cut out leaves using various papers. Originally we were only going to create leaves but students suggested we add butterflies, birds, flowers, tree houses and swings. So glad they did!
