Scratch it!

Year 1s are learning about the horizon line and the images that are close to it are smaller than images that are further away!

Instead of painting or using textas I thought it was be nice to create our own scratch art. We used oil pastels and acrylic paint. Kids loved it!!!

What can year 3 do with newspaper?

Sticking with the collage/layering/pasting theme, students planned out and made their second collage for the term.  Students were challenged to create an image of their choice using only newspaper and glue. Students were challenged to find different print and colour in the newspaper so their layered bits would pop out more.

We looked for layering, careful cutting and little details in our art.

Preps learn about collage

What a busy few weeks the Art Room has had. Only 2 weeks to go!

Last week, preps created paper for the mobile by making a collage by ripping tissue paper and glueing the pieces onto wax paper. The tricky bit was covering the whole piece of tissue paper with glue so it stuck down properly, but they all managed.

This week we brainstormed shapes that we could cut out of our collage paper and draw them on normal paper. Students then drew their favourite images onto their collage paper and cut them out. I taped their images to their string. It took me forever to hot glue gun and tie the string on the popsicle stick, but it was worth it.

Printing

The magic words for this lesson were printing and blending.

I just wanted the kids to experiment with printing so I told them that they could create any image they wanted and that they just had to fill their whole page with interesting shapes and lines. Some students created patterns, buildings, boats, houses, rockets and monsters, while others just enjoyed printing random lines on their page.

Materials:

Acrylic Paint

Scrap pieces of cardboard and balsa wood

Soft Pastels

Students had a lot of fun printing. Soft pastels were a big hit but despite my best effort some students still left with very messy faces and clothes (sorry parents!).

Year 4 Printing

I love love love printing! It is my favourite unit to teach. I love the quality of prints and how each print is very unique.

Year 4s worked very hard to plan and create their prints. We used a foam relief, different coloured ink and coloured paper.
