The First Week of Spring

Another busy week in the art room! There are so many exciting things happening at Elwood Primary School right now, especially the production.

Preps
Continuing on with creating art inspired by books, we read one of Eric Carles books. I love his illustrations and thought that the Preps would love to have a go at using his art processes. This week we worked with ACRYLIC paints! Don't worry I stressed that the paint was permanent and that was only to touch brush and paper. Preps learnt about the word texture, and worked hard at creating rough texture by using texture tools and combining colours. Next week we will be ready to use our textured paper to create wonderful little creatures.

Textured Paper

1S is finished working on their wacky circus inspired machines. Students had fun making up inventions. One student came up with creating a machine that made afros?!

Year 3s started their final project this week. Students were asked to plan and design an image that shows depth and distance. We created a rubric together and the students chose between pastels, water-colour pencils and paint as their medium. Good luck year 3s!

Here are some pictures of their last project. Students were asked to create an image where closer images were more detailed than farther images.

Year 5/6 continued on with their art.

Organizing is 99% complete

Another busy week in the art room.

Preps finish off their "Family Forest" by painting over textas and crayons images with waterpaint. The Preps experimented with blending colours together before applying the paint to their paper. Students also worked carefully on doing tiny soft brush strokes.

Prep S
Most of the year 3 classes finished off their landscape art by applying water to their picture this week. Here are some samples of students who are still working on filling in their page with images using water colour pencils. Students learned that closer images have more detail than further images. 3K, 3M and 3/4 J's art work will be posted at the college on Thursday. Pictures soon.

Year 4 have been working away at building their skeleton for their sculpture. The skeletons beginning to take form. Next week we start working with paper mache! Any brave parents are more than welcome to come in and help out. Year 4 times are Monday 9- 10 and 11.30 - 1:30.

Can you guess what we are?
Year 5 and 6 are busy with their folios. If anyone knows any graffiti artists or people that are passionate about graffiti art  and would pop in to the art room for a short visit, please send me his or her details!

"Get down there, get those photographer angles"
Students are creating wonderful things using construction skills and magic clay.

I have been updating this blog on Saturdays but hopefully next week I will have a class computer so updates will be more often.

A big thanks,

The Staff are Welcoming and the Kids are Wonderful

Thanks to everyone at EPS for making me feel at home. This first week has just been the best! It has been great meeting all the students (My goal is to learn names in two weeks, fingers crossed). If you are curious about what we are doing in art, and would like to come visit the art room (even for 5 minutes) please feel free to do so. Also, feel free to contact me at leynadosch@hotmail.com.

Next week is book week so the Preps have been busy creating art inspired by the book "Family Forest" by Kim Kane. This week we worked with textas and crayons and next week we will be adding water colours. I am blown away by the variety between their art work. Especially when it comes to drawing people and trees.
"Some kids have a family tree. We have a family forest"

I love the vines and tree houses.

Look at that tree!

"My family is hanging from the branches"

"I can feel the texture in the trees"

This term year 4 has been planning their sculptures based on Pop, Cubism, Cartoon and Abstract Artists. This week they started making the skeleton for their sculptures. Students used tape, cardboard and paper. Looking good year 4!

Year 5 and 6 have been busy working on their folios. Some students finished their art this week and I have convinced them all to display their work in and around the office. I have told the year 5's and 6's that it is their choice if they would like to take a picture of their art and post it online. With permission, I have taken a picture of one piece of year 6 art. Amazing.

I do not have any year 3 art up yet because I forgot to bring my camera to the college. Next week! Please check back regularly for more posts.

Welcome to EPS's art blog.

Welcome to ourartadventures blog. I am so excited to get this blog up and running, be sure to check back often for updates and photos of the things we've been doing in art class.

10 facts about myself:
1.    I graduated in 2009 from UBCO in Kelowna, Canada.
2.    I lived and taught in London for a year.
3.    I moved to Melbourne for love.
4.    I have travelled to 21 countries.
5.    My favourite styles of art are abstract expressionism and surrealism.
6.    In Canada I organized and ran a summer camp for 3 years.
7.    I collect children’s literature.

This year I have had the pleasure of teaching at Elwood casually and may have already taught your child/children. I am absolutely thrilled to teach here full time and look forward to getting to know the students, staff and parents.

Jacqui has created a fabulous art unit for the year and I will be sticking closely to her original vision. If you have any questions for me please don’t be afraid to email or, better yet, come see me in the art room.

Thanks,

Leyna
